Nuclear Pharmacist

Did you know that pharmacists played a strong role in nuclear medicine departments? Not many did. In fact, a recent study showed that only half of health care professionals new about nuclear medicine departments. This means that there is a good chance that pharmacy students may have a great advantage if they want to join this career path.  Their role is to promote safe and effective methods of using radioactive drugs.

Pharmacist for NASA

Ever wanted to go to space camp as a child? Pharmacists with an interest in the National Aeronautics and Space Administration might fit their inspiration at NASA. Pharmacists are encouraged to apply as Tina Bayuse, the lead pharmacist at the Johnson Space Center Pharmacy explained how they help guide scientists on how to examine medications and how they may affect the body in space and back on land. One of the main challenges that NASA pharmacists face is how space will change the medicinal reactions to humans.

Prison Pharmacists

Individuals serving time in prison are likely to have a history of psychiatric illness, substance abuse, and infectious diseases. In fact, over 21% of those incarcerated are reported to having hepatitis B or C, tuberculosis, or a sexually transmitted disease. With that, over 66% of prisoners are reported to taking a prescription medication. Some of the pharmacists may work with physicians to discuss the issues of immunizations, diabetes, JIB, anticoagulation, and hepatitis.
